For some years I have used the tool, Sharpening Your people Skills, DISC,to help missionaries understand themselves and others with whom they are working.
What are your strengths and weaknesses? What motivates you? What demotivates you? How are you likely to handle pressure? What is your most effective work environment?
These are good questions for missionaries to be asking themselves.
By completing a simple online personal profile people can gain insight into their strengths and weaknesses, the characteristics of their preferred working environment, and strategies for greater effectiveness.
- An online address and unique DISC code is issued. The client completes the personal profile online and it is returned by email for analysis.
- Once analysed a DISC report is issued, based entirely on the answers the client gave on their online personal profile.
- For a team: Each person completes a personal profile and all completed profiles are returned. A personal and team report is issued which forms the basis of a healthy group discussion.
SPECIAL PRICE FOR MISSIONARIES: £40/ $65 per person

For more than 30 years, DISC has helped people improve performance, deal more effectively with conflict, and value differences. DISC recognises that the first step toward change is understanding why we act the way we do.

MORE ABOUT DISC
DISC can be used in a variety of contexts to help deliver insights and benefits. The tool is frequently used to help individuals and groups
- Understand their preferences, strengths, and growth areas
- Appreciate personal diversity
- Develop a common language to discuss personal styles
- Create a dialogue about personal preferences, frustrations, and differences
- Relate to those around them
It is an excellent tool for both missionaries and missions to employ on and off the field.
MISSION TEAMS
For mission teams it is important for you not only to understand your own uniqueness, but also appreciate the uniqueness of others you are working with. Groups or teams tend to develop their own unique styles or culture. This culture is an informal combination of behaviours, values, and attitudes. DISC helps you understand many important needs, goals, fears, emotions, and behaviours within your group culture. It is not simply an average of all the people in your group. A number of different factors determine group culture, such as:
- The style of the group leaders
- The most pronounced styles within the group
- The type of work that the group does
- The historical culture of the group
- The cohesion or tension within the group
- The goals and mission that the group faces
People are not the same. A strategy that works effectively with one person may be disastrous with another. By understanding another's preferences you can develop an effective plan for creating positive team relationships.
